As far as presents for a 3 year old, does anyone have any favorites, besides cars and trucks? Any good learning toys? A Leap Frog?
On another note, we have started the Big Boy room. We want to get it done by Saturday, but probably won't have it 100% completed. Here's a look at the disaster area in which we currently reside. Notice the styrofoam all over the floor and in Lucas's hair. Nice:

We have a Leapster 2 (kind of like a Nintendo Game Boy, from our day). It plays "learning" games based on disney and other characters. It's ok--mostly it is a nice, quiet way for P to keep herself entertained. Some days she will play it all the time, then we will go weeks without seeing it.
All in all, a good purchase. You could also look at the Nintendo DS or Leapster Didj.
If you don't like noisy toys (albeit even learning noisy toys), I'd avoid the Leap Frog.
another friend also told me she didn't think Lucas would sit still long enough to play with the Leap Frog. Hmmm.
