V-day Gluttony

Today was Lucas's Valentine's party at school. He was expecting the cards, but not all the glorious morsels of heart-shaped sugar. Needless to say, he was pleased. So pleased that he declared today, the day after Valentine's Day, to be "the best Valentine's Day EVER." I let him pig out a bit when he got home from school. I kind of wanted to get it out of the way today and move on. While we were at it, I let Evan have one of the leftover cupcakes I made for the party. He also was pleased and devoured every last drop of chocolaty goodness, frosting first.
After our gluttonous feast of candy, cupcakes, and chocolate, we headed to the living room to make a fort. I mostly made the fort and the boys mostly destroyed the fort, but still, for a few minutes there was a fort. And while there was a fort, I was able to vacuum the kitchen floor.
For dinner, to make up for our sugary afternoon, I made roasted balsamic brussel sprouts and roasted beets, served along side a piece of homemade toasted whole wheat bread, some chicken for the boys, and some super-awesome leftover v-day jello.
Our sugary afternoon finally caught up with us as we had two screaming boys at bedtime. It was a disaster -- the kind of disaster you see on Supernanny. But eventually, after baths and a cuddle, they both went to sleep with smiles on their little faces as they dreamed of chocolate unicorns trotting through cotton candy forests of heart-shaped trees.

On another note, my mom is awesome. She spent over $5 to send these free airplane crackers she got on her flight home from Florida. I guess she could better rationalize the expense if she threw in a birthday card for Ben and $25 worth of toothbrush heads. Thanks, Mom!

Who is that awesome mom?

Side note: This was up on the computer this morning. We were in bed still and Lucas came in the office. "Mom! Mooooom?" Ben finally came in. Lucas wanted to know what I was doing taking care of that little girl. Later I asked Lucas if he saw me on the computer and he said he did - I was taking care of a little girl until her dad got home. He's so cute.

Last night were the Austin ADDYs, held at the new Austin City Limits Venue at the W hotel. Ben entered Evan's birth announcement. And... He got a GOLD ADDY!

I am so proud of him. He worked so hard on these announcements. They were life size. Grey paper, beautiful soft white paper for the image, and the blue stuff was all thermography. On the front of the announcement, it reads "A Still Small Voice." And inside lists his stats. To bind the pages together he sewed them with blue thread.

Now it will go off to Regionals, and then maybe Nationals. Ben is an awesome baby announcement designer. Remember Lucas's? It was quite a big deal. :)

Ben's shirt for sale

Ben's Trianglion shirt is for sale today and today ONLY. Weird, I know. I don't know why they chose that for their business model, but they did. Go buy it for $12!!!

Snow What Fun!

It doesn't snow often in Austin. And it's been 15 years since it's been this cold in Austin. We've been below freezing with highs around 24. I've made Evan wear a little snow suit when we leave the house and it works great!
Today we had the second snow we've seen in Austin since we moved here. Last February we had a slight dusting one day. But today we got dumped on! I'm talking a whole inch or two. School was canceled and parents got to stay home from work. Yippee!

Our Snow Day began with some Huevos Rancheros, then we went outside for some snow fun with the Rothes. Evan wasn't a fan, but Lucas had a blast!
