C is for Cookie

I told Lucas we were going to make cookies this afternoon, yet I was a bit taken aback when he actually pulled his stool up next to me while I was creaming the butter and sugar. He started getting into the flour and soda, wanting to taste everything and asking questions about the vanilla and mint extract. Finally I realized, he was indeed going to help, so I just had to accept it. See, I'm not the best at sharing the kitchen (according to Ben). I work great with my mom, but if someone comes in and starts making a mess (say Lucas) I'm not too accepting. And I know I need to work on my kitchen behavior. Or else Ben, I mean Lucas, needs to start taking direction better... some boys just don't want to be taught!

Anyhow, Lucas helped me measure the flour and tasted the dough along every stage. He was especially helpful when it was time to clean up:

I just don't think he'll fit now...

We had a rough evening - Lucas was exhausted by 5:00. He hit me on the head with a book, threw all my laundry downstairs, and put spaghetti in his milk. After dinner Lucas came back in the kitchen and said, "Mom, I think it's time for Evan to go now."
Me: "Go where?"
Lucas: "Back in your tummy."
Now, I was wasn't expecting this. Evan was happily sleeping in his bouncy seat. I didn't quite know how to respond. I considered telling him he was S.O.L and making a joke of it - that baby definitely isn't going back in there! But then I remembered that this new kid did come in and totally alter Lucas's perfect world. So, I sat down and asked Lucas if it was hard to live with Evan sometimes. He said it was especially hard when Evan cries. We didn't have a long talk about it, but I'm glad he knows he can talk to us, even if it is about his wish to send his baby brother back for a bit. Maybe it's time for me to take my little man on a date...

On another note, Ben was pulling weeds on Saturday. He had the back door open all morning. We were getting ready to head out around lunch time and Ben was at the kitchen sink. I was headed upstairs and heard him yell at Lucas to stay away, so I turned around to see what the fuss was about. When I got to the kitchen I saw Ben holding his awesome Space 1999 lunchbox that he got on eBay. Instead of the usual leftovers in his lunchbox, it was a snake. Ben stepped on it while he was at the sink. He was barefoot, the snake moved, he freaked out. He looked down and the snake headed to hide in the cabinets. Ben grabbed it by the tail and threw it in his lunchbox (the closest thing around). We took it in the backyard and he tossed it over the fence. It was quite the adventure for a Saturday morning. It was a harmless snake, but some people up the street from us killed a rattle snake a couple months ago. Grrrrross. It's really cute to hear Lucas tell the story. He's so animated.

Guess Who?

A lot of people have mentioned how Evan is starting to look a lot more like Lucas. Can you tell them apart?

Happy Two Months, Evan!

Time sure does fly. We need to take more pictures of this poor kid. Here's a blurry one, but he's still so cute.

Some Recent Funnyisms

Lucas has said some funny things in recent weeks:
He got a magic wand in a kids meal and pointed it at Ben: "Dad, I'm gonna dissapear you into a cat!"

At first we tried to explain to him that it wasn't a real magic wand. He didn't quite get it and I was afraid he would be really upset when Ben didn't turn into a cat. Instead, Ben pretended he was a cat and Lucas was delighted. We spent the rest of the night taking turns turning each other into different animals.

Lucas's prayers are always interesting to listen to.
After Evan was born he would always say, "Please bless Mommy that her head feel better."
"Please bless I can hold my baby brother."
"Thank you for my toys and for my house."
"Thank you that I could see Thomas." (this happened in October, but he's still very thankful)
"Thank you that I could go to church" (he says this every day, not just Sunday)
"Please bless that I can watch a movie."

It's so sweet to listen to his little voice when he says prayers. Sometimes he has a hard time being serious, but when he is you can hear his concerns and know that he is grateful... even if it's just for his toys.

Evan is almost 7 weeks old. He's a big boy and he's so freaking cute. He has the cutest smile that I hope to catch on film one of these days. Evan also rolled over Sunday night from tummy to back. He's not supposed to do that for a month or two. He's just very manly is all.

I will try to get some pictures on the blog soon. As well as more updates. We've many adventures in our travels the past couple weeks. In Phoenix our good friend got married, we had Evan's baby blessing, and Lucas got to meet his 6 cousins for the first time. We also hit up Bahama Bucks a couple times and got to see the Clarks and Silvertooths!
Our time in ABQ has been less eventful, although, today Lucas had a great time with Aunt Lisa that included a train ride, giant ants, sharks, and stops at two fast food establishments. He's such a lucky boy. I just have to learn how to download pictures onto my Dad's computer... I just have to relearn the PC. Until then, have a smashing day.
