We had a really fun weekend, so I thought I should fill you in.
Friday was Ben's annual work boat party where he watches everyone else get drunk and plays in the lake. He had a good time. There's always really yummy food, and a day at the lake is more fun than work.
On Saturday morning we headed downtown to the Children's Museum and used our new membership that Joanie gave us. It was pretty fun. Lucas had a good time and especially enjoyed the train section. After lunch at Schlotzsky's and a nap we decided to go play tennis. Didn't you know we were tennis stars?
Well, we've never actually played before. I took lessons when I was little (20 years ago) and hadn't touched a racket since.
Ben's reasoning for starting tennis: "You're really good at ping pong, so I bet you'll be good at tennis." Well... I wasn't. I was really bad. Tennis and Pong are very different. But, I still want to keep trying because we would be cute playing tennis together AND I could wear those hot tennis skirts! Ben was better than me, but still no Agassi. I managed to hit the ball out of the court and into the park and he always managed to keep it in the fence at least.
Lucas played with his dump truck and markers the whole time. He also made for a good ball boy, but I felt bad for him because it was so stinking hot outside. I'm determined to try this adventure again, though. Next time we will keep ball storage in mind, though. Ben's shorts weren't baggy enough to hold all the balls we were going through. I kept mine in my shirt and I looked really good.
After tennis, our day was pretty much over, except for errands. Ben took Lucas to Lowe's while I bought groceries. Then we headed home for dinner and bedtime.
Sunday night we had the Rothes over for dinner. Lucas harassed little Anna (Anni) and Drew (Dwu) had to keep him in line. It was a good time, though, even if Drew couldn't stomach the spinach in my lasagna, the bread was still frozen in the middle, and the watermelon was a little hard. At least the crepes for dessert were pretty good. And of course the company was great!
Some other funny things:
The other day I told Lucas to go get Ben for dinner, so he went up to the office and came back a few minutes later. I asked if he told Dad it was time for dinner and he nodded. A few minutes later I yelled at Ben and asked if he was coming. "Oh, is that was Lucas meant when he came in and said 'cheese'?"
Whenever I ask Lucas what he wants for dinner/lunch/breakfast, he always answers "cheese." Perhaps because it's the only food he says.
Lucas likes to be wrapped up in a blanket and play "Baby." I swaddle him and just pretend he's a baby and hold him. He thinks it's a riot.
We got a crib tent for Lucas a couple weeks ago because he was crawling out of bed, which was scary and annoying. It works like a charm! He thinks it's fun to have a tent bed and has never once freaked out when I zipped him in.

2 Year Visit
Today was Lucas's 2 year checkup with the pediatrician. It was traumatic at first because he wanted to play in the waiting room with the cool toys, but instead got taken to an exam room where he had an absolute fit. Have I told you about Lucas's new screaming talent? He must have gotten it for his b-day. It's LOUD.
He chilled out eventually... when the exam was over. Here are our stats:
Weight: 30 lbs 1 oz. - 75%
Height: 37 1/4 inches - 95% (he was throwing a fit, so this could be off)
Head Circ.: 50.1 cm - 80%
The doctor said he looked good. Luckily, he started saying two word phrases the other day or she might have sent us to a specialist. He said, "bye bye Daddy", "more Daddy" (he said this to me, but oh well... two words is two words), "mama's shoes", and of course, "all done" which he has been saying since he learned to eat.
I asked her about autism because a few people have shown concern. She said he is definitely not autistic (she told me this last year, too). He's so social, has good eye contact, etc. When she was walking out of the room he even blew her a kiss and as she walked away she said, "yep, definitely not autistic."
You just have to understand that Lucas is gonna be a different kind of kid. His dad is Ben. And if he gets his dad's DNA, he's going to be extremely smart, get into a lot of trouble, do funny things, and drive me insane. As far as the sorting goes, I think he gets that from me.
After the appointment we went to Brushy Creek Park with our friends and had fun there. (After a tantrum from leaving the doctors office/cool toys).

Lucas's Birthday Recap
Lucas's birthday was a really fun day. When Lucas woke up I went in his room and started singing Happy Birthday. He quickly instructed me to stop singing. Instead I talked to him about how it was his birthday. I asked him how old he was and he said, "two"!
We went downstairs where there were 10 balloons on the floor for him to play with, which he thought was so fun.

For breakfast I offered Lucas eggs, oatmeal, or cold cereal. He chose the cereal.
After breakfast I revealed his new toy from Grandma, Grandpa, and Lisa. He was pretty excited and played on it several times throughout the day. He likes it when I'm out there to play with him so he can use me to help him run up and down the slide.
We went to the pool with Jeana & Kate, and Brenna & boys. It was lots of fun. Overnight Lucas turned from pool-hater, to crazy-pool-boy. It's great! He's fearless now, so I really have to watch him. He goes underwater and everything. I'm attributing it to a puddle of slime he slipped in at the other pool last week. It must of had some sort of magical power.
Friday night Ben picked up pizza from Papa John's. Sadly, he had a horrible customer service experience, but he made it home safely with two pizzas and a drink. The Baldwins came over for dinner, which was really fun. Lucas loves Kate and Audrey, so he had a fun dinner, too. They probably learned new words as Ben described his Papa John's experience.
The b-day party started at 7:00. We had Lucas's best friends come over. The kids all played with the new outside toy, which Lucas thought was really fun. It was great to see him interact with the older kids. He even followed their example and posed for a picture with them!
Before cake, we heard a little whimper from the toy room. Kate was stuck in one of Lucas's toys. It has actually been recalled because kids were getting stuck, but mine is supposed to be the fixed version. Scott and Jeana kept their cool, and so did Kate. I was so impressed! Thank goodness Brenna was there. She has the same toy and has had to free Jackson a few times, so she knew how to take it apart. Kate was finally freed when I got some lotion to lube her arm up - then she came right out. I don't know what I would have done if I would have been home alone when this happened...
Lucas's birthday cake was the hippo from Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? I'll put more cake details on my other blog for those who care. But, Lucas LOVED his hippo cake and wanted to play with/eat it all day long. (It was coconut flavor with cream cheese frosting and marshmallow fondant icing).
After cake, the kids played some more until Ocean decided that it was time for presents. I told her she could round up the kids and bring them in, which she did. This is the first time Lucas has really opened a present by himself. First he opened a little package of trucks, then he wanted to play with them, but he had to move on. Then he got a great book from Carrie, a Mr. Potato Head, a coloring book & crayons, and finally a dump truck that was hidden in the closet. The process was kind of frustrating for the little guy because there was so much to play with and so many kids around, but I think he had a great time.
After all the big kids went home, it was just us, Clay & Andrea, and Wendy & Blair. The boys, as usual, came up with a creative way to play with Lucas's toys: bouncing a tennis ball off of balloons in a circle and trying to make a basket into the tennis ball container.
Saturday morning Lucas got to open his present from Nana and Grandpa via web cam. They got him some really cool wooden cars from Barnes & Noble. He really likes them a lot... and so do all the adults!
Then on Saturday in the mail we got our present from Auntie JoJo (my BFF, Joanna). She got Lucas a membership to the Children's Museum downtown. We've never been, so we're really excited! And we can bring a friend, which makes it even better. Thanks, Joanie!
I think that basically sums up our b-day celebration. Thank you to everyone who helped make Lucas's day extra-special. We have such great friends here and I'm glad you all came to the fiesta.
